On Holy Wednesday evening, His Eminence Metropolitan Silouan, assisted by Fr Michel, Fr Boniface, Fr Dmitry, and Fr Dcn George, celebrated the Sacrament of Holy Unction. We were also joined by our spiritual brothers and sisters from St Botolph’s Parish.

At the end of the Sacrament, Fr Dcn George offered a short reflection on the meaning of Holy Unction. He spoke about its Scriptural foundations, and reminded us that healing in the Church is not limited to the body, but extends to the soul. In this sense, every one of us is in need of healing, even if we are physically well. That is why the Church offers this Sacrament to all the faithful during Holy Week.
In his brief homily, Sayedna Silouan emphasised the importance of faith and trust in the healing power of our Lord Jesus Christ. Our natural response to physical illness should not only be to seek help from physicians, but also to turn to the true Physician of our souls and bodies – our God, who heals through the grace of the Holy Spirit.
The work of doctors is blessed and is saving lives. In fact many saints were themselves physicians. But as Christians, we are called not to rely only on medicine, but to place our ultimate trust in God, who alone is the source of life and grants complete healing
