On Saturday, 1st of March, ladies of the St George’s activities group hosted an annual Ladies Brunch at the Beit el Zaytoun restaurant in support of the St George’s Arabic School.
The event opened with a short prayer and speech by Fr. Michel Touma. He warmly welcomed the guests and conveyed greetings of Metropolitan Silouan, thanking all attendees for their support of St. George’s Arabic School and expressed appreciation for the ladies of the Activities Group, who initiated and organised the fundraising event. He also acknowledged the ongoing support of Dr. Samir Hraiki and the Orthodox Society of Britain, as well as the dedication of Head Teacher Mrs. Maggie Makhoul and all the teachers, who give wholeheartedly to the school, treating the students as their own children.
Then, Mrs Maggie Makhoul, Head Teacher, addressed the attendees with a moving speech about the school’s mission in preserving the Arabic language as a bridge to family and heritage. She shared a touching story of a student learning Arabic to communicate with her grandmother, praised parents for their dedication, and reflected on the wisdom of past generations in building strong family connections. She extended her greetings for the Great Lent, urged prayers for peace in the Middle East, and expressed gratitude to Dr. Samir Hraiki, President of the Orthodox Society of Britain, for his unwavering support of the Arabic School. She concluded by thanking Metropolitan Silouan for his continuous prayers and pastoral care, as well as the event organisers for their efforts in making the gathering a success.
Following the speeches, the teachers of the Arabic School presented flowers to the brunch organizers, who in turn shared them with the teachers as a gesture of appreciation for their dedication.
The gathering continued with a beautiful musical performance by Zahi Safia on the Oud instrument, filling the room with joyful atmosphere. The event concluded with the a raffle and donated prizes given. Each guest also received a small souvenir—a pen branded with the Arabic School’s logo — as a token of thanks for their support.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended, supported, and contributed to this special event. Your generosity helps sustain our Arabic School and ensures the richness of the Arabic language and heritage continues to thrive among our children and future generations.
